Mechanical dust suppression

Loading without the dust cloud.

DustCone dust suppression hoppers discharge bulk material as a coherent solid column — dust stays in the stream, not the air. No power. No filters. No moving parts.

The problem

Every uncontrolled drop turns product into pollution.

Wherever bulk material falls from height — conveyor to pile, chute to truck, spout to ship's hold — fine particles separate from the stream and become fugitive dust: lost product, a respiratory and explosion hazard, a housekeeping burden, a regulatory exposure.

Keep the dust in the material, and it never becomes dust.

  • No extraction fans, ducting or bag filters to power and maintain
  • No water sprays or chemical suppressants added to your product
  • No compressed air, no sensors, no control system
  • Performs outdoors, in weather, without degradation
Working principle

Self-regulating flow, driven by the material's own weight.

The hopper body hangs from heavy-duty springs around a fixed internal cone. The weight of material in the hopper does all the work — no actuators, no adjustment, no operator input.

Rest

Empty, the springs hold the hopper up and the internal cone seals the discharge. The system is closed and ready.

Loading

Material enters and its weight extends the springs. Inside the sealed vessel, the incoming stream de-aerates: entrained air escapes upward while solids settle and consolidate.

Discharge

As the hopper descends, an annular gap opens around the cone — proportionally to the load. Material flows out as a compact, cohesive column, with fines locked among coarser particles all the way to the pile.

Why mechanical

Less dust. Less risk. Zero operating cost.

Product recovery

Keep the tonnes you paid for

Fugitive dust is product that never reaches the pile. Containing the stream returns that material to your inventory — continuously, at zero energy cost, for the life of the equipment.

Safety & environment

Cleaner air, clearer sightlines

Containing dust at the source reduces respiratory exposure, restores visibility around loading operations, and helps mitigate dust explosion risk in enclosed spaces — with no electrical equipment introduced into the dusty zone.

Total cost

Nothing to power, little to maintain

No filters to replace, no fans to service, no consumables to buy. Robust steel construction with replaceable major components and generous inspection access.

Storage capacity

A denser pile in the same store

A free fall sorts the material — coarse to the core, fines to the surface, where they no longer fill the gaps. A consolidated column arrives still mixed, so the pile packs denser and reclaims more evenly. How this works.

Product line

Two configurations. One engineering method.

Two configurations cover a wide range of applications and capacities — from compact units to terminal-scale systems. Every DustCone is fabricated to order and sized to your specific material and flow rate.

Open top

DustCone DC

The universal configuration. Receives material from conveyors, chutes and loaders above — ideal for retrofits where the feed point can't be modified.

  • Drop-in installation under existing transfer points
  • Suspension frame with factory-set travel limits
  • Inspection window for in-service monitoring
DustCone FT flange-top dust suppression hopper: bolted top mounting frame, tensioned suspension springs with chain restraints, and conical body below the flange
Flange top

DustCone FT

Top-to-bottom containment. A bolted, gasket-sealed cover mates directly to your feed chute — zero escape at the inlet, maximum suppression in an ultra-compact profile.

  • Sealed flange interface to existing chutes
  • Best choice for enclosed and height-restricted installations
  • Same self-regulating spring mechanism as the DC

Materials of construction to suit your duty: Mild Steel, Corten, SS304, SS316L and Hardox, with optional polyurea coating for abrasive or corrosive service.

Field proven

Working equipment, documented on camera.

The mechanism does not care what the material is called. Grain terminals, feed mills, fertiliser plants, mineral and aggregate handling, port loadout — anywhere a dry bulk solid falls from one point to another, the same physics applies. Each unit is sized to the material and the drop in front of it, from a short chute to the full height of a silo cell.

Engineered sizing

Send us three parameters. We work out the geometry your material needs.

1 — Flow rateTonnes per hour at the transfer point
2 — Bulk densitykg/m³, as handled
3 — Particle size rangeFrom the coarse fraction down to the fines

Every DustCone is sized for the job in front of it, using established bulk solids engineering and years of hands-on experience with material transfer. You get a unit dimensioned for your material and flow rate — not the nearest catalogue size.
